ScrumU Small Group Jun 4 2010

Attendees: GA Tech(Rich), MnSCU (Dick), ND (Tracy)

GA Tech - Starting up a vendor hosted software implementation using Scrum. Have Scrummaster training next week with Joe and Kristine, with 8 people from Ga Tech attending. Planning Banner upgrade, will start sprinting on that by the end of this month, targeting go live in Sept. Will do 11g upgrade at the same time.

MnSCu - Working on 2 year project to better support students who get degrees from multiple schools, which is encouraged by the system (e.g. prereqs one place, final degree other place). Interviewing agile coaches - interviews themselves have been a good learning experience.

ND - Plugging away at 3 different vendor hosted implementation Scrum projects, and one custom development project. First go live for vendor hosted scrum project is July 1.

Talked about personality types and how different types might tend to prefer or adopt well to scrum. For example Extroverts from Meyer Briggs - prefer "do, plan, do" vs "plan do plan". Do these types of people adopt better or prefer scrum? Also talked about idea that you don't know what's around the corner until you stick your head around the corner and look :) Scrum forces you to stick your head around the corner, maybe earlier than would be your natural preference.

Talked about intake process, governance, what to do about areas that have more cash to apply to IT projects than others. MNSCU has an Enterprise Investment Committee, GA Tech and ND are evolving.
